Robins at Our Front Door

It was in the beginning of May when we saw a male and female Robin start flying around our house. A little while later they started to build a nest on a wreath right by the front door! We were so excited to see them build. So now we had to start using the back door more often, so as not to disturb the birds.

A few days later after the nest was finished the female Robin laid her first egg. It was pretty tiny and it was turquoise blue. Every day after that she laid another egg until she had five of them, but she did not sit on them until all five were laid, so they would hatch at the same time. It takes about two weeks for the eggs to hatch, and when they do it gets really noisy around here! The male and female Robins are kept really busy, bringing food for the little Robins, and taking the droppings away with them. We had one of the baby Robins fall out of the nest and we didn't know until later when we found it dead.

The baby Robins grow really fast, when they get big they look crunched in that tiny nest. Later they start to sit on the edge of the nest acting like they are going to fly, but they don't for a while.

Right now we have the same pair (we think) of Robins nesting on Mom's wreath again! We already have four little eggs in the nest. The female Robin likes to lay the eggs around 10:00a.m. each morning. We are very happy they decided to nest here again.
